The Modern Language Association (the guys who brought you style guides for citing sources in academic publications, among all manner of writing style guides) disagrees. While I couldn’t find an exact link, Samford University Style Manual confirms that you should form the plurals…of acronyms and abbreviations by adding s or ’s and goes on to clarify that ‘s is preferred when this would be clearer to represent the meaning.
